Joel Allen Abernethy
It is with deep sadness that the family of Joel Abernethy announces his passing on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the age of 38 years.
Joel was born in Edmonton, AB and was raised for the majority of his life in Saskatoon, SK. After high school, he moved to the sunny Okanagan enjoying his time there.
In 2014, he chose to move to the Comox Valley to be near the ocean and to have the support from his parents. Joel loved hiking, swimming, playing cards and entertaining his nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed drinking tea with his Mom and cooking.
Joel was spiritual and was deeply in touch metaphysically with the universe. Joel took great comfort in his beloved cat, Mr. Bo, who loved him unconditionally. He took great joy in the small things in life and was always positive.
Joel will be lovingly remembered by Mr. Bo, parents Corinne and Jim Gutka; brother Dustin (Alison) Abernethy and their children Jesse, Aurora, and Isyss; brother Adam (Lacey) and their son Addison; brother Troy (Sara) Miller and their children Amadeus, Nathaniel and Dominick; aunts, uncles, cousins as well as many friends.
Joel was predeceased by his father, Allen; grandparents Jay & Ed Deloli, and Jeanne & George Abernethy.
Joel’s family will be honoring his wishes and celebrating his life privately.
