Mom died peacefully at home on December 3,  just nine days short of her 92nd birthday.

She achieved her wish to always live independently in her own home where she has been for 32 years. Joan was born and lived her whole life in Duncan.

She came from a pioneering family after whom Sherman Road is named. She always found it hard to believe that there could ever be a place better to live, than Duncan. From whatever direction you were coming, when you saw the mounds on top of Mt. Prevost, you were home. She spoke often of a wonderful growing up in the Cowichan Valley with her sisters Pat, Annira and Barbara and spending hours in and at the Cowichan River.

Joan was predeceased by her parents Doug and Elsie Sherman and her three sisters. And in 2003 much of her world ended with the death of her husband and the love of her life, Tommy. They enjoyed just being together and boating, mostly the Gulf Islands, in their various wooden boats, the Old Timer, Townley Isle and Alpine Fir II. They enjoyed a long retirement together particularly at Cowichan Bay, Salt Spring Island and Silver Park in Duncan.

Joan is survived by her daughter Vicki (Ken) Jacques, Tommy's daughters Adele Munro and Daphne (Don) Read, and their children, and grand-children.

Also survived by her three grandchildren and partners Graeme, Cheryl, Robin, Dan, Angie and Ross.

Her grandchildren constantly kept her in the family loop by telephone and visits and in return Joan devoted her life to them  -  and Bingo! And missed by those who have called her great nanny for 17 years, Brendan, Matt, Trev, Bella, Aleka, Josh and Scarlett.

Joan would  have wished to thank  Dr. S. MacGregor for her kind care and  patience.
