Joan passed away peacefully on January 22, 2019 at the age of 95. She is predeceased by her husband Ken in 2006 and survived by her 5 children, Michael (Mary) Nanaimo, BC, Gary (Sue) Erin Ontario, Karen Orton, Christopher Orton, and Adam Orton (Eve) London, Ontario.
She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Jeremy and Ryan Orton of Nanaimo BC and Ron Orton, Jeff Orton, Jamie Orton, Aaron Brouchu, Savannah Orton-Foster and Meghan Orton all in Ontario. She also had 10 great grandchildren.
Joan was a World War 2 veteran and served in the RAF. She immigrated to Canada in 1948 with Ken and one year old Michael. With Ken and her children she made Peterborough and London, Ontario, Victoria, BC and finally Nanaimo home for her family. She loved to sew and to garden and took great pride in what she coaxed from the earth.
