Jim Lundine

Jim Lundine took off by himself for an epic fishing trip on Tuesday, January 22nd at the age of 73, after a heroic fight with cancer. We are certain he departed in January to avoid another tax year!

He leaves behind his wife, Jeannie Lundine, his two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim & Rainer Willeke and Buffy & Hans Trupp and his beloved grandson, Manu Max Trupp. Also, his brothers Dan, Robert, John (to which he has been a notable pain-in-the-ass until a recent lack of coffee with Baileys forced him into serious and reverent contemplation) & their families. In addition, he leaves behind his sister-in-law Laurie Rankin and partner Larry Smith & family. Jim now joins his brother David, his nephew Jeff and parents Margaret and Everett Lundine.

Jim was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, godfather, brother, uncle, son and FRIEND to many. He was born in Port Alberni in 1945 and lived on Vancouver Island until he volunteered for service in the Canadian Airforce at the ripe old age of 17. Jim immediately realized he didn't much enjoy being bossed around and was honorably discharged in 1964. Upon his return from Eastern Canada he worked in his parent's pie shop in Victoria. He then spent time in Weyburn Saskatchewan as a farm hand and also on the oil rigs.

He married Jeannie, his high school sweetheart, in October 1968 and together they accepted an overseas posting in the Tropics where they spent 4 years refurbishing and rebuilding the YMCA pool in Port of Spain, Trinidad. During those years, Jim and Jeannie were adopted by Aubrey and Eileen Fraser and their sons and daughters Howard, Allison, Rowan, Kirsten and Stuart who became their brothers and sisters. Jim and Jeannie moved back to Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island in 1972 to raise their two daughters, Kim & Buffy, while Jim ran a successful backhoe business.

Jim always felt most at home on the ocean, in the forests and wandering the rivers; hunting, fishing and providing for his family. He was an active member of Arrowsmith Search & Rescue in Oceanside, was a charismatic musician, generous colleague and loyal friend to people all around the world. In 2010 he suddenly realized work was getting in the way of time at the cabin. He promptly retired to spend quality time with his family and especially his grandson, showing him the wonder and beauty of his favorite and beloved wild places.

Following his wishes there will be one hell of a PARTY on his birthday, St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, 2019 at the Qualicum Beach Civic Center, 747 Jones St, Qualicum Beach, from 12-4 pm. Everyone is welcome!

He was never one for ceremony but he loved a good joke and his favorite drink and he can now be found with his best friends, Bob Buffam and Randy Howe raising a glass! Expect to find a fishing rod in his hand and unlike previous times, this is not a ploy to avoid bureaucracy or formalities! All those who knew him and loved him, know that he is at peace and happily wandering in nature where he felt most alive. He will be GREATLY missed.
