April 12, 1942 - December 17, 2019
On Tuesday, December 17, 2019 the "Bluenose" matriarch and bright light of our family passed away in the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. She was a wonderful and giving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Born in Halifax, with the family home in Chester. Jean was predeceased by her father, John Muir and mother, Pat (nee McNeil). She leaves behind her loving husband of 45 years, Charles; brother, John (Alice) Muir; sister, Christine (Mike) Innes. She is additionally survived by her sons, Derek Muir (Susanne) Robinson, sons Liam and Benjamin and Charles Christopher (Jenny) Robinson; daughters, Avery and Isla - all of whom she loved unswervedly.
Jean's working years included positions of responsibility in the Halifax legal community, the Canadian Jewish Congress which planted many trees in Jean's name in Israel, the Maritime Life Insurance Company and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.
Jean loved travel and visited many foreign countries in pursuit of this adventure, including living onboard our sailboat in the Caribbean for two years. Music, in particular the playing of the piano, was a lifelong pleasure. Jean also loved entertaining friends and family with magnificent meals (a little nonsense now and them is cherished by the wisest of men), attending her church, and volunteering to improve the lot of the less fortunate.
As Jean herself stated "I have lived a good life, a rewarding one" and further "Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not dead, I do not sleep . . . I am your guardian while you sleep, and angel I'll be for you to keep. Be safe my lover and treat yourself kind, for you have been a loving joy of mine."
Charitable contributions may be made in memory of Jean to the Oceanside Hospice Society.
A Celebration of Jean's life will be held at 672 Windward Way in Qualicum Beach o a Spring day when her flowers are in bloom. Date and time to be announced later.
