Jean passed away peacefully on January 28, 2021 at the North Island Hospital in Courtenay. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret Montgomery (Cumberland), and brother Victor Mayor (Calgary).
Jean is survived by her husband of 59 years Gordon Joseph Jenkinson, her sons Greig (Carolyn) Jenkinson of Victoria and Gavin (Kari) Jenkinson of Victoria; grandchildren Cailin Jenkinson, Paiden Jenkinson, and Duncan Jenkinson; nieces and nephews Kevin (Terri) Montgomery of Florida, Scott (Nooshin) Montgomery of Courtenay, and Lisa (Dan) White of Queensland.
Jean grew up near Gladstone, Manitoba and moved to the Comox Valley at the encouragement of her sister Margaret in the mid 1950's where she met Gordie. The garden at their home on Stewart Avenue was a hummingbird oasis of colour, which they enjoyed with a cup of coffee from their deck.
Jean was a member of the Comox Valley Curling Club for years. Many summers were spent poolside at community swim meets for Greig and Gavin throughout Vancouver Island and many special and long-lasting friendships were made with other parents.
After Gordie's retirement, they could be found golfing every day at Longlands and Jean had a fondness for hole #4 where she successfully made many holes in one.
Jean and her sister, Margaret Montgomery, extensively researched their Scottish heritage. They travelled together to Scotland to find relatives, who later came to visit in Courtenay.
Jean and Gordie moved into assisted living together at Comox Valley Seniors Village where Jean took great comfort in living just a few doors down from her sister.
The Jenkinson family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all Jean's friends, old and new, and especially the staff at the Comox Valley Seniors Village who helped and cared for her each day.
