James Whyte

June 28, 1922 - September 24, 2017

Jim was born in Cumberland, BC on June 28, 1922. He passed away September 24, 2017 in Courtenay, BC. A simple graveside service was held on September 28, 2017.

Since the passing of his wife of 55 years Pat in 2004, Jim lived independently at home.

He leaves behind his children Jim (Thea), Patricia (Dana) Hart, Bill (Nora), Murray (Val), Wesley (Kim), Kerry (Ruth), Lyle Jones and brother Bryson (Terry) as well as 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents James and Doris, sister Doris Papso and his grandson Warren Hart.

Jim served with the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's) in the 1st Battalion. He was elevated to the rank of a Knight of the Legion of Honour (Chevalier de la Legion D'Honneur) by the President of France in December 2014 for his service in Normandy. Further service took him to Belgium (Leopold Canal), the Netherlands and Germany where he was at war's end.

Jim loved his large family and enjoyed the family get-togethers.

His wish was to pass at home and that wish was fulfilled. We will all miss him dearly, but know that he is now with Mom.

Till we meet again dear Dad, love you.
