James Robert Delahay 78, passed away on September 1, 2021, at the Campbell River Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer.
Jim was born in Ottawa on November 24, 1942, to Dr. Reginald and Irene Delahay
After completing his education, Jim worked at E.B. Eddy's, then Canada Banknote before discovering flying and attending flight School in Carp, Ontario. After obtaining his commercial helicopter pilot licence, he moved to Vancouver and later settled in Campbell River BC.
His flying career in helicopters spanned 35 years and the work included firefighting, logging, oil rigs and arctic exploration. Jim flew everything from small two seat machines right up to the Sikorski model 61 and the Sikorski SkyCrane.
Jim is survived by his loving and supportive wife Peggy; brother Paul (Brenda), niece Trisha Delahay (Tyler) and great nephews Luke and Evan; nephew Ryan Delahay; sister Julie McInenly (Peter); nieces Kelly McInenly (Mark), great nephews Mateo and Lucas, Paula O'Shaughnessy (Mike), great nieces Audrey and Julia; nephew Jeff McInenly (Angela), great niece Ava.
Predeceased by brother John (infant). Jim is missed by Abigail (Abby) our beloved Australian Shepherd who laid by his side until he was admitted to hospital.
A special thanks to all the staff at the Campbell River Hospital, Dr. Peter Juszkiewicz, Dr. Tiffany Chan, Dr. Val Veerapen, Dr. Anthony Booth, Dr. William Tinmouth, Kidney Care, and all the nurses on Third floor section D. As well as the Home Support Nurses and Staff.
