March 10, 1932 - August 25, 2020
James passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side. James was born in London, England to the parents of Robert and Edith McMurdo (nee Whybrow).
James is deeply loved and missed by his wife Ruth McMurdo (Ellison) of 65 years, daughter Alison (Colin) Cathro and son Duncan McMurdo. Left to mourn: his brother Peter (Victoria) McMurdo, granddaughters: Leia, Rachel and Claire Cathro who fondly call him "Pacus", nieces and nephew: Debbie, Susan and Paul and families along with cousin Christine Spalding and those residing in Scotland and Australia.
James and Ruth emigrated to Toronto, Ontario in 1957. James was recognized for his years of service with Proctor & Redfern as a Contract Administrator in Pollution Control.
Some of their happiest memories were times spent with friends Allan & Marion Stewart and family. The McMurdo family returned to England for several years to reunite with relatives. They were the proprietors of Clifden Lodge in Paignton, Devon before making the Comox Valley their home.
James spent his final years before retirement as a Sales Associate, Realtor for Harry Holland. James was an accomplished craftsman especially restoring and building clocks. James was a lifelong Chelsea FC fan as was his brother. His kind and gentle soul touched many in his lifetime making us all better for knowing him.
Our family would like to express our appreciation for all the health care professionals at the NIH, Comox Valley and the home visiting Nurses with VIHA Palliative care for their excellent support.
Per request, no memorial service will be held. Donations in memory of James may go to cvhealthcarefoundation.com/giving/ways-to-give or spca.bc.ca/donations/comox or one of your choosing.
