September 30, 2020

March 27, 1947 - September 30, 2020
James Alan Kemp passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at the age of 73.
Alan was predeceased by his parents Dorothy (2004) and Albert (1997), as well as his brother Brian (2005). Alan is survived by his son Andrew and his grandson Ethan, sister-in-law Valerie and niece Lynette.
Alan was born and raised in Winnipeg, growing up on Smithfield Avenue in West Kildonan. After graduation from West Kildonan Collegiate, he studied Geology at the University of Manitoba and then completed his degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Alberta. He excelled in all his classes.
He started his career with Atomic Energy of Canada at the Caulk River Facility. He then moved on to the Nuclear Division of Ontario Hydro, Bruce Generating Station, obtaining his Nuclear Station Operating License.
After taking early retirement in 2000, Alan then did some consulting work in Ottawa and later on, contracted with British Nuclear to restart one of the reactors at Bruce Nuclear Station.
Alan worked a couple of farm properties in Tiverton County and raised cattle is his limited spare time. He was an outdoorsman, camper, hunter, fisherman and loved the isolation and beauty of Canada's great wilderness.
He retired to Vancouver Island and used that as his base to explore Western Canada. With a tremendous love of wildlife, Alan also found time to volunteer for Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society.
Alan always treasured his dog(s) and took them with him everywhere. If you wish, donations to your local Humane Society would mean a lot to Alan. Memorial to be determined for a later date.
