July 19, 1929 - September 11, 2019
Jack passed away peacefully in palliative care on the afternoon of September 11, 2019. Born in Brechin, BC to John and Sarah Place, Jack spent most of his life living at his Nanaimo property, which is presently accessed on a road sharing his namesake, Place Road, now known as Pipers Lagoon Park. It was here where he found his love for fishing at a young age. He spent countless hours fishing on the waters in front of his house and was where he chose to raise his family.
Family meant everything to Jack, and he is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley, and his children: Debbie Forbes (Brian), Will (Linda) and Barry (Debbie), grandchildren: John (Brianna), Jason (Jane), Brenden, Jordan, Jimmy and Jesse and great grandchildren: Annika, Chloe, Landon, Avery and Jackson.
Jack attended UBC, and opened a tire shop, Terminal Tire, with his soon to be father-in-law Hayden Johnston and eventually decided to become a commercial fisherman. Jack enjoyed his career choice and spent many years fishing along the coast of British Columbia. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it was hunting in the Kootenays, fishing in Haida Gwaii or camping on the island he called home.
The family would like to thank Dr. H. Visser and the palliative care doctors and nurses for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation.
