December 3, 1931 - November 1, 2020
The woods has lost another legend. Jack James passed away peacefully on November 1st, 2020 at home in the arms of his loving wife. He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Roy and Laura James on December 3rd, 1931.
Married for 68 years, he is survived by his wife Donna, sons Lindsay, Raymond, daughter Sharron. Brother Lorn, sister Paddy Gibson; grandchildren Mike Onda, Aaron James, Danielle Webber as well as many dearly loved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Jack's hobbies were fishing, golf and curling, but his passion was logging. His first job, at age 11, was lighting the fire in the cookhouse stove. From there, he worked his way up through the ranks to the woods foreman. He had a wealth of knowledge about old time logging and had so many stories that he loved to share. He had an uncanny sense of knowing a man's worth at first meeting and respected a man that would work.
He retired after 50 years in the industry, but in 2008, with his JJ Logging crew, they took on the restoration of the McLean Mill live stream donkey show, so in fact he continued to log for the rest of his life.
Please post any condolences on facebook, under the "Tribute to Jack James" page. A service will be held in the future.
He was my diamond in the rough and will be deeply missed by many.
Rest in peace my darling.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Western Vancouver Island Industrial Heritage Society.
