May 7, 1947 - July 18, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce Isla's passing. Born in Barrhead, Alberta, Isla was the daughter of James and Dorothy Adair, and the eldest of five siblings: Sharon, Lorna, Valerie and Ian. She met her husband Ed on July 1st, 1970, while they were camp councillors at Winfield; they married that same year on December 26. In 1979, they had their first son, Quinn, and in 1982 their second son, Kael. Isla is further survived by her daughters in-law, Dana and Yuyue, and her grandchildren Caswyn, Finley and Marina.
A schoolteacher for over 30 years, Isla specialized in ECS, teaching in BC, Alberta, and eventually China--ultimately helping hundreds of children feel safe, warm, and welcomed as they entered society. Isla was an avid reader, traveler, and enjoyer of first snowfalls, cheese sandwiches, and hot chocolate. She was a gentle soul, always putting the needs of family and students first--a model of selfless caring and kindness. While her passing came too early, her legacy will live on through the love of the students she taught, the friends she touched, and the family she treasured.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ladysmith Family and Friends society (www.familyandfriends.ca) or Sorrentino's Compassion House (www.compassionhouse.org). Our family thanks the friends and medical professionals who supported us on Isla's final journey.
