March 22, 1923 - March 26, 2021
Mom passed away at home surrounded by family on March 26, 2021 after six weeks of rapidly declining health.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Maria and Otto Kempf, stepmother Genevieve Kempf, brother Rudi Kempf, husband of almost 49 Years Werner Suhr and sister Liesl Benz.
She leaves to mourn her four children Wolfgang, Hans (Loreen), Manfred (Lynne) and Angela (Marc). She is also survived by grandchildren Annalise (Clay), Hans Jr. (Nicol), Deidre, Akela and Joel and great grandchildren Megan, Grace, Michaela, Cameron, Emma, Ethan and Lilly.
She also leaves behind her brother Englebert, nephew Martin Benz and family, along with many other nieces and nephews in Germany as well as many friends.
Mom was born in Bad Krozingen, West Germany in March of 1923 and grew up in the town of Weil am Rhein. Mom married our dad, Werner in 1942, and five years later welcomed the first of her four children Wolfgang. Three years later another son, Hans, was born.
In 1951 dad immigrated to Canada settling in Prince George and in 1952 mom followed with Wolf and Hans. In 1954 mom briefly returned to Germany to give birth to Manfred.
During her time in Prince George, besides raising us, mom worked as a sawmill camp cook and eventually co-owned and cooked at a successful restaurant. In 1963 daughter, Angela, was born.
In 1965 the family moved to Port Alberni, where mom lived the remainder of her life. Throughout the years, mom worked alongside dad in various businesses. In 1972 along with dad she dedicated her life to her God, Jehovah and was an example of faith and conviction the rest of her life. She loved her God and family above all else.
She was an avid gardener who loved flowers, loved to read, as well as a good game of cards or Aggravation with friends and family. Mom was known as a classy lady, always gracious with a positive outlook and twinkle in her eyes. She was loved by all who had the privilege to know her.
The family wishes to thank the medical professionals who took such good care of mom through her final days. Doctors Arno Kitshoff, G. V. Sutcliffe, K. Feyi, Larry Kozuback, medical receptionists Maureen, Holly and Carole, foot care specialist Paul Kurucz, the nurses at WCGH, the paramedics and the wonderful nurses at Community Nursing that made it possible to fulfill mom's wish to pass at home.
