It is with tremendous sadness that our family shares news of the loss of our beloved Irene Vivian Healey (nee Cox) of Sooke, BC, on September the 25th , 2022.
Irene is predeceased by her youngest daughter, Patti as well as her son's in-law Brad and Bill.
She leaves behind her five remaining children and ten grand-children; Colleen (Jason, Maggie, Mac, Corrina), Tim (Misty, Crystal, Jessie), Kathy (Katrina, Sean), Kelly and Dan (Ben). Irene's legacy also lives on in her fifteen great-grandchildren.
Irene was born in Shamrock, Saskatchewan on November 22nd, 1935 and was by all measures a hardy farm woman. She and her husband Raymond raised their six children in Moosejaw, Whitehorse and Victoria with limited means, and tremendous love.
Irene was blessed to meet her second life-love, Joe Putz, and together, they shared a home in Sooke, BC where Joe lived out his final years.
Irene was a fixture in Sooke; she appealed to the local government for greater resources and funding to ensure a high quality of life and leisure at the Senior Centre in which she, herself, volunteered many hours, and helped to create a thriving sense of community amongst her dear friends.
Irene hosted many family gatherings and fun-filled events at her home at Sunny Shores Campground and Marina. Her grandkids and great-grandkids remember biking around the campground, crabbing off the ends of the docks and being greeted by little bags of treats upon coming in to visit her.
There were many backyard bonfires and songs sang in harmony amongst friends and family. If you were a friend, you were treated like family; this is just who Irene was.
She would spend weeks baking, in advance of the Christmas holidays to give out one of her much anticipated trays of goodies, including her famous Butter Tarts!
Irene lived a life filled with family, laughter, generosity and love.
We welcome all who were so fortunate to know her and to love her, to come together in celebration of her life on Sunday October 23rd , 2022 at the Sooke Legion at 1:00 pm.
