Irene Nelson Brost, born 1927, died peacefully from natural causes last Tuesday August 4th, 2021 after a short stay at the Cowichan District Hospital. She will be interred at Mountain View Cemetery. At her request there will be no service.
Irene was a first-generation Canadian, born and raised in Canyon, BC, the youngest of eleven siblings. She was sadly the last remaining member of that generation.
She and her husband, Elroy Richard Brost, met in high school in Creston, BC, and were married in 1947 shortly after his return from active military service. Irene and Elroy raised four children, with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Irene was a 40-year resident of the Cowichan Valley, having retired here after Elroy's long career in the Canadian Armed Forces. Elroy died thirty years ago at a young 62.
Irene was a beautiful, open, and happy person who made friends easily. She had an amazing collection of sparkly shoes and boots, and she loved parties. She will be missed. We love you, mom.
