June 20, 1941 - April 4, 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of an amazing Wife, Mother, Nana and Great Nana after a long battle with Parkinson's.
Irene passed peacefully surrounded by her family at North Island Hospital in the Comox Valley. She was born in Nottingham England during the war.
One fateful night in January 1960 she met the love of her life James, a young Canadian airman. Love blossomed and the two were married in Nottingham on the 15th October 1960 and her adventure as a military wife began.
Leaving her home town she followed her husband around the world, eventually moving to Canada, spending time in Chatham NB, Comox BC, Cold Lake AB and Toronto On. Along the way she was blessed with three children.
During those years she found a passion for golfing, curling and fishing. In 1987 they retired to the place they fell in love with, Comox BC where she took a job with Royal Lepage, eventually retiring in 2008.
When not working, Irene was a fixture at Glacier Greens Golf course and continued to golf until she was no longer able to. Always an optimist, her glass was always half full, never half empty. Her smile could light up a room and she always had a kind word for everyone.
Predeceased by her mother Mary, father Bill, and sister Rosemary, she leaves behind her loving husband of 60 years Jim, her two daughters Julie (Bernie), Angela (Steve), her son Clint (Evelyn), 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She also leaves behind 2 sisters in England Jeanette (Chris) and Patricia (Brian). She will be missed by many of her friends and extended family.
Her family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors for Unit 3A at North Island Hospital for their compassion and care during the last weeks.
In Lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made in her name to the Salvation Army one of her many charity choices.
Celebration of Irene's life will follow later.
