January 21, 1934 - May 10, 2020
Beloved husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Imre passed away peacefully on 10 May 2020. Born to Istvan and Julianna Zsiros (pre-deceased) in Buj Hungary, Imre came to Canada in 1956 escaping from his native Hungary at the time of the Soviet occupation and spent the remainder of his years on Vancouver Island.
Imre was initially employed by CN Rail, and for several years was self-employed, and later working for over thirty years as a heavy-duty mechanic for MacMillan Bloedel Limited, and Western Forest Products at various work sites throughout Vancouver Island.
Imre devoted himself to watching and encouraging his children playing hockey as they grew up. A supportive father, he always found time to take his children to games and tournaments and offer them words of praise and encouragement.
An avid fisherman, hunter, and camper Imre enjoyed the outdoors, and found great delight in cooking bacon on a stick over an open campfire with family and friends.
In recent years, Imre and Gladys enjoyed taking their motor home to Yuma, Arizona in the winter, savouring both the warm weather and the company of friends they made.
Later in life, he always looked forward to visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Married to Gladys (Emery) in 1961, Imre was pre-deceased by their son Norman and is survived by his wife Gladys, son Jim (Taylor), Maria (Rob), and Sue (Bonnie), nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and brother Miklos (Anna).
The family would like to thank all doctors, nurses and staff of The View at St Joseph's for the excellent care provided to Imre, during his stay.
The family gratefully declines flowers. Donations to The Views at St Joseph's hospice would be appreciated.
"He will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved him."
