February 12, 1925 - December 24, 2020
Nagymama passed away peacefully at the Gardens in Qualicum on Christmas Eve. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 63 years, Bill Sr., in 2012.
Ilona leaves behind her only child, William (Bill Jr.), daughter-in-law Petra, her two grandsons, Brent (Kathleen) and Wilson (Tiffany), great granddaughter Raya, and great grandson Easton. She arrived in Port Alberni in 1957 from Budapest, Hungary and lived in the Alberni Valley until 2014, when she moved to Qualicum Beach.
For the first 4 years, she enjoyed walking uptown to buy groceries and to window shop. She especially enjoyed watching and cheering on the tennis players at the courts on Veterans Way. Her other great joys were visiting, and having meals with her son and daughter-in-law, plus going on drives. She spent all of 2020 in complex care, and will always be remembered as a strong, fun-loving lady who enjoyed her music.
Many thanks to all of the wonderful staff at the Gardens. They all loved her joie de vivre, smiles and hugs. No formal service by request. A celebration of life will be held on a safe date in the future.
