In the early hours of November 16, 2018, Ilene Florence Mighton (nee Mills) passed away peacefully in her sleep with her daughters, Jane and Carol, at her side.
Ilene was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Daisy Mills; her husband of 67 years, Jack Mighton; three sisters Olive McClure, Mabel McClure and Joan Kernovich; and her great granddaughter Sonja Burton. Ilene has 5 children: Gerald (Donna), Jane, Carol (Tim), Katherine (Rob), Kenneth. Ilene and Jack have 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Ilene was born in Kelfield, Saskatchewan. Daisy, her mother, raised her in the tough years of the 30's. At 14 years of age, she moved to Saskatoon and attended high school and secretarial school. In Saskatoon she met her lifetime friend, Irene Tyson, and her future husband, Jack.
Ilene and Jack married in Saskatoon, June 22nd 1945. While raising their children and developing lifelong friends and memories, they lived in Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Montreal and Edmonton. Ilene worked as a secretary in the Winnipeg School Division. Ilene and Jack retired in Qualicum Beach for 26 years before moving to Richmond, BC, to be close to family. In Qualicum Beach, Ilene was made a lifetime member of the United Church Women and was actively involved in activities of St. Steven's United Church. She loved to curl and golf with her friends; she enjoyed the three times a week walking and socializing with the Qualicum Beach walking group. Above all, she loved the family reunions. There were always warm cinnamon buns when her family came for visits. Mom loved her family so much and we miss her greatly.
A Celebration of Life for both Ilene and Jack will be at 2 pm on December 17 at St. Steven's United Church in Qualicum Beach. To celebrate their lives, please come and share your favourite story.
