Our beautiful Mom passed away surrounded by her loving family. Mom was born in Winnipeg, to Elbert and Bernice Rolfe. At the age of nine the family moved to West Vancouver, then seven years later they moved to Victoria, where Mom finished high school. Mom enjoyed a happy childhood with friends and family, and was greatly influenced by her Grandpa who lived with them.
Mom attended the Catholic Youth Organization, and it was here that she met Dad when he was on shore leave from the Navy. It was love at first sight. Mom and Dad were married on September 3, 1955 in Victoria. The following year they started their family.
Mom lived for her family. She loved each of us deeply and unconditionally. She was quiet and thoughtful, yet strong and determined. She loved chatting about politics and world events, and enjoyed any family gatherings where she could bring her famous chicken wings, beans, and baking. Mom also enjoyed her quiet time, where she loved reading and gardening.
Mom was diagnosed with cancer in September. It was short but intense, as Mom chose family time over treatment. She is predeceased by her parents, brother James Rolfe, sister Claudette Large, husband James, daughter Eryn Wilder, granddaughters Julianna Wall and Desne Wall, and great granddaughter Natalia Dodding.
Mom is survived by Stephen (Christina), Michael (Ethel), Geoffrey (Kim), Angela (Larry Schug), and John (Barb). Mom was blessed with eighteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Recently, Mom said she was ready to go home to be with her Lord, and join Dad, Eryn, and all those who left before her. Her wish was to die in the comfort of her own home. This was only possible because of her daughter in law Barb and granddaughter Allison, who are both nurses. They were angels to our family, and gave Mom the most beautiful final gift of her life.
