June 24, 1925 - December 16, 2020
In loving memory, our family announces the passing of Holger, born in Denmark June 24, 1924 - passing December 16, 2020 and Edith, born in Norway March 19, 1926 - passing July 6, 2021. After WWII, both set out on their separate journeys to Canada, meeting in Prince Rupert, marrying in 1953 and settling in Vancouver, then on to Surrey before retiring in Nanaimo. Holger worked as a millwright & Edith managed the home while busy raising their three boys, Helge (Mary), Arne (Kathy), Edgar (Valerie) & were blessed with 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren. Over their long life, they enjoyed many family celebrations, Scandinavian smorgasbords, gathering with their friends & neighbours, the early summers holidaying in Osoyoos & Harrison Hot Springs, picnics in Stanley Park and trips back to their 'old countries'. We miss their gentle souls, caring ways and unconditional love they gave each & every one of us. We will keep them in our hearts and honour them each day by appreciating the values instilled in us, their patient guidance, genuine kindness, quiet strength & support through any storm...living simply but fully. Holger & Edith are predeceased by their parents, many siblings & their precious little angel & grandson, Joshua. A small family gathering will be held on October 20, 2021 for the internment of both Holger & Edith's ashes at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens that would mark the anniversary of 68 years of marriage. Special thanks to Dr. Putter, Arnel, staff & care aids of Woodgrove Manor & Lakeside Gardens, the many nurses, Drs. and staff at NRGH who provided such wonderful care over the years, Taylor of First Memorial and Heather of Cedar Valley Memorial...so very grateful.
