In Loving Memory ~ 1922-2021
On November 26, 2021 we lost a warm and caring man!! He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 78 years, Alice, his constant companion. Together they had 7 children, Ken (Sheila), Susan (Joe), Betsy (Doug), Linda (Mark), Rick (Issaree), Jeff (Laurie), and Lisa.
Stan is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Stan was predeceased by his son Jeff, his sister Sheila, and 3 Grandchildren, Matthew, Timothy, and Jordan.
Stan was born in Leominster, England, in 1922, to parents Campbell Mostyn and Ida Rebecca Hall. In 1932 they immigrated to The Dominion of Canada, and took up residence in Vancouver, B. C. There Stan attended school and eventually joined the RCAF in 1941. He was stationed in St Jean, Quebec for the duration of the war, meeting and marrying Alice in 1943.
After the war Stan had a number of positions in the Lumber Industry, beginning as draftsman and finally rising to Purchasing Manager for Tahsis Company Ltd until he retired in 1974.
During 20 years with this company he built 2 large sailboats, 38' Natomah and 52' Ocean Spirit. Upon leaving his job with Tahsis Co., he and Alice and 3 of their youngest children decided to sail around BC waters while living aboard Ocean Spirit. They moored in Sidney, still living aboard, where the children could attend school.
By 1976 Stan sold Ocean Spirit and they were back on land again. In 1977 he built their waterfront home in Sidney, with the help of son Jeff. Stan and Alice's home was a busy place with their children's families coming to visit their beach property each year. He tended his garden with hundreds of flowering plants and shrubs.
In 1979 Stan became the owner's on-site Representative overseeing the construction of SailView Townhomes. After that project was completed he was engaged in a similar role for the building of Shoal Harbour Townhomes.
In 1984 Stan started a coffee group which met weekly at the Sidney Pier coffee lounge. In time the group would grow to 14+ members and became known as the OBE group (Over Bloody Eighty group).
In his 85th year, Stan wrote a book containing his memoirs, a gift to his family and friends. In his book he speaks of all the "Lucky" events that helped him along the way. He was a man that never said a bad word about any person. Weren't we all so lucky.
