Harry passed away at Trillium Lodge, Parksville on the 1st of January 2022 after a short illness.
He is survived by his brother John, sister in law Marion, daughters Allison and Rowena and grandchildren Lisa, Jack, Lucy, Ellie and Hannah.
Harry was born in Easington Colliery, County Durham to Charles and Martha Spink.
He was a keen rugby player playing for Horden RFC and then for the University of Leeds where he studied for his Masters in Engineering.
He married Avril Jones in 1962 and with their 2 daughters they moved to Nova Scotia in 1970.
Harry stayed in Canada when his family returned to the UK. He came to Vancouver Island to work for BC Hydro, where he worked till he retired in 1999. This is where he met Ruth Johnsen in Victoria where they were both avid curlers. They married in 1984 and he became a part of her extended family. Becoming a stepfather, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather.
Harry and Ruth settled in Qualicum Beach in 1991 building their new home in Eaglecrest.
They were active members of Eaglecrest golf course and spent many holidays golfing with their close friends. They travelled regularly to the UK to see their family.
Harry was a long time member of Parksville and Qualicum Beach Elks, becoming the Exalted Ruler in 2004. He also enjoyed spending time at the Royal Canadian Legion.
Harry is remembered fondly by his family, friends and neighbours for his warm and generous nature, his love for music, travel and his family.
