November 15, 1930 - August 31, 2022
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our father, Henk Klawer on Aug. 31, 2022 at Cairnsmore Place, Duncan. Henk was born Nov. 15, 1930 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
He is survived by 1 brother and 2 sisters in Holland; pre-deceased by his daughter Louisje; and survived by his children, Rudy, Monique (Darrell), Twon, and Paul (Kristi); grandchildren, Garrett (Annie), Marika (Brendan), Liam, Grace, Jordan, Braden; and great-granddaughter Charlotte.
Henk immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1956 where he first found work in Black Creek on a dairy farm. He then moved to the Cowichan Valley where he started a family and worked for over 25 years at Chemainus sawmill till its closure in 1982, after that becoming a self-employed handyman willing to take on any chore.
Dad's passions were his garden, politics, classical music, and the arts. As a voracious reader he had a wealth of knowledge and was always up for a good debate.
A special thank you to the amazing staff at Cairnsmore for taking such good care of dad.
A celebration of Henk's life will be held on Sept 19th, 2022 at 2:00pm at Enrico Winery, 3280 Telegraph Rd, Mill Bay.
