Hendrik van Boven, of Duncan, BC passed away peacefully July 26, 2022. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Lawrence (Marilyn), Tony (Tammy), Judy, Harold (Alida), Michael (Joanne), Sylvia (David), Anita (Piet); 33 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. He was born the youngest of five in Fluitenberg, The Netherlands. I
n 1952, at 19 years of age, he joined his brother Herman in Smithers, BC. After a winter of logging in the bush, the brothers ventured to Lethbridge, where he met Dorothy. After one more winter logging in Smithers, they followed their sweethearts to Victoria and both got married in 1957. In 1967, they bought the dairy farm in Duncan and moved there with 6 children.
After 25 years of farming, they retired and spent a lot of time volunteering with MMAP in the USA and many overseas mission trips (Venezuela, Papua New Guinea, Brazil 2x, Ghana 3x). For the last number of years of their married life, Henry cared for Dorothy, who developed Alzheimer's. His prayers for patience and unconditional love were answered through this time.
He often expressed that his desire was to love unconditionally and to have a closer walk with God. Dad was very intentional during his "sunset years" to develop relationships with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, sometimes with humorous experiences to remember!
