Helen Moira Dillingham (Weir) of Qualicum Beach passed away on April 5, 2022 at Dufferin Place, Nanaimo aged 93.
Moira was predeceased by her father, Dr. George Moir Weir, her mother Marie Weir (Smith) and her loving husband Gerald Sidney Dillingham.
She is survived by her nephew George Moir Weir Cronkite (Shelagh) of Nanaimo and her niece Susan-Marie Cronkite-Price (Andrew) of Pritchard, along with grand-nieces Genevieve and Mackenzie and grand-nephew James.
Moira grew up in Vancouver, BC but spent her early years in Victoria while her father, the Honorable George Moir Weir, served as a cabinet minister in the BC parliament. She spoke fondly of her home in Oak Bay and attending private school. Moira returned to Vancouver and graduated from UBC with a B.A.
She was working at CN Communications when she met Gerry, whom she chose as the finest of many suitors. Moira had a sparkle that was hard to resist! She and Gerry were devoted to each other and led a rich life together first in Burnaby and then, on Gerry's retirement, in Qualicum Beach.
Moira will be dearly missed as she knew how to make people feel loved. Having had no children of her own, she played an important role in George and Susan-Marie's upbringing taking them to appointments and drive-ins in her Studebaker, spoiling them with regular dates at White Spot, many years of thoughtful gifts, and delicious birthday banana cream pies.
She was always full of energy and mischief and genuinely interested in what was going on in your life. Moira was fiercely independent right to the very end.
