December 9, 1939 - January 30, 2020
Harry Oscar Loutit began his life in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. He was born to parents John James Loutit and Mary Jane Flett both of Ft. Chip.
He grew up fishing, hunting, trapping in the small Métis community where he took a dog sled to school and piece of wood to help heat the classroom.
He was moved to the Kootenays after the death of his parents and joined the Navy at age 17. He fell in love while stationed in Victoria, B.C, eventually settling in Comox in the early 1960s to raise his 5 children.
Harry (Oscar) is the last Loutit of his generation. He has gone home to his parents, uncles, aunties, brothers, sisters and his beautiful daughter Karen. He leaves behind his heavy- hearted children: Russell, Michael, Gwendolyn and Victor, grand children, great-grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins and many a friend and neighbour who knew him as a kind and generous man.
Always quick to laugh and willing to lend a helping hand; Harry (Oscar) loved fishing, holiday dinners with his family, his dogs and winning (casino, horses, cribbage...).
We would like to thank the numerous care givers, life-line, doctors, pharmacists, family members and friends who held us up during his 19 year battle with cancer.
It has been an honour to call him Dad; there was never a better man.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Harry (Oscar) at the Comox Legion on February 9 from 1 - 4 pm. Come and share your memories.
In lieu of flowers please be kind to a person or charity of your choice.
