Survived by Mary VanDijk. Children: Jim Hoitsma (Diane), Zonna Rozzano (Brad), Anita Hoitsma (Warren), Shawn Hoitsma (Michelle), nine grandsons, and one great granddaughter, nieces & nephews in Alberta & Netherlands.
Predeceased by Olga Hoitsma and Barry Hoitsma.
Born in Bolsward Freisland, came to Canada in 1957 to Edmonton and worked as photographer for many years. Moved to Nanaimo 1974, and opened Van Hoitsma Photography, a talented artist through the lens of a camera.
He became very well known winning many awards.
He brought people many cherished memories through his work. Other passions are sailing, dancing, family and always building something. Dad had a contagious smile, laughter, charm and personality that everybody loved.
We will miss him terribly. Special thanks to the wonderful care workers & nurses at Eden Gardens.
A celebration of life will be at a later date.
