In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts we say goodbye to Harcharan Singh Grewal, our beloved father, brother, grandfather, and husband of 57 years to Balbinder Kaur Grewal. Harcharan passed away suddenly and peacefully, after living a full and healthy life, on May 12th, 2023, at 88 years of age.
Born June 12th, 1934, in Punjab India, Harcharan grew up as a farmer before enlisting in the Indian army at 18 years of age. Whilst in the army Harcharan was able to travel throughout much of India and learned how to read and write, English, Punjabi, Farsi, and Urdu. Harcharan left the army and continued a career as a D8 CAT operator building roads throughout India prior to working in a Steel factory in Rourkela before getting married in December of 1965.
Harcharan immigrated to Nanaimo in 1969, after leaving the steel factory in hopes of being able to provide a better life for his family. Harcharan was able to secure a job at the CIPA Lumber Company mill where he worked from 1970-1997 while supporting his wife and 3 kids.
After settling into Nanaimo and Canadian culture, Harcharan became an integral member of the local Sikh Community. A dedicated philanthropist, Harcharan often donated to the Nanaimo General Hospital in addition to many other causes. He leads his family by instilling strong values such as hard work, honesty, love, and devotion to his loved ones.
Harcharan leaves behind his beloved son, Kanwaljit (Parwinder), and daughters Sarbjit (Amar) and Bubby.
His grandchildren: Ricky, Armin, Jasmine, Jayden, Trevor, Harjeevan, Aaron, Kyle, Aiden, and Lucas.
And his great grandchildren: Ellie, Emmie, Riley, Kayce, and Avaani.
In lieu of flowers, in his memory, please donate to the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation.
