Grant Douglas Hunter (Skip) left us in the early hours of Monday 22nd February 2021. Grant's sons Stephen (Ria), Nick, and wife Deborah were with him as he passed.
Grant grew up in Port Alberni. Many of the stories he would tell us in his lifetime were of his glory days at Paper Mill Dam with Clint, Shane, and Mike. One of the greatest jobs he had when he was a teenager... being paid to watch cement dry for the city.
He played basketball for ADSS under the coaching of Mr Bill Greenwell, a man along with Mr Wilf Antonichuk and Mr A Joseph, set the standard to adhere to for Grant for the rest of his life. His interests were all sports but his passion was basketball. Until he met Deb in 1984.
They lived in London, England for 4 years until the birth of their first son in 1989. Grant moved his family back to Canada in 1990. He was employed at BC Ferries, and actively took on many roles in the community and continued to realise his original passion of playing and refereeing basketball.
Their second son was born in 1999. With his family complete, Grant loved living his life actively participating and watching his sons grow up.
By all accounts, Grant was loved, respected and considered to be truly a kind, strong caring man to all who knew him. As well as leaving his immediate family, he also leaves his brother Marc Hunter (Angie, Joel and Akela).
On a bright sunny day, Grant's family brought him back to Port Alberni, a place he absolutely loved. Due to the pandemic, no public service was held.
