In Loving Memory ~ With broken hearts, the Robertson family says goodbye to Grady, who passed away peacefully in his Victoria home. Grady will be dearly missed as the cherished, beloved son of Debbie and Doug Robertson. He will be forever remembered by his sister Jennaya, her husband Paul, and children Ashlyn and Mitchell. He was an adored grandson of Vera Waring and precious nephew of Lynn (Gord), Vicki, Darrell (Wendy), Carol (Larry), Vivian and Jack.
Grady leaves a saddened host of cousins, extended family and friends. We celebrate his life and courageous spirit with heavy hearts, which was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him. His presence will be sadly and intensely missed.
Grady gifted his family and friends with his strength, tenacity, courage and quiet perseverance. His positive attitude caused all to cherish and enjoy their time with him. Despite being afflicted with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy at an early age, he navigated a difficult journey with bravery, facing his life without complaint, always with a smile and his inimitable sense of humour. No matter his situation, he always put concerns for others before his own.
As a youngster, he approached life with verve and joy, and he took pride in being a Duncan Firehall kid. Grady had many adventures, including travelling in the US, swimming, skiing, solo sailing, travelling to Toronto with his team to participate in the Canadian Wheelchair Hockey Championships.
Over the years, his many interests included all sports (primarily the Philadelphia Eagles). With his friends in their wheelchairs, he drove down the 1/4 mile strip at the Pacific raceways in Seattle during an NHRA drag racing event. He was a sci-fi junky, enjoyed playing poker, watching movies, and he especially valued family time.
Grady touched and impressed many people with very special relationships. For those blessed to have known him, he was a hero.... a wonderful man deeply loved by family and friends. Grady has left a permanent mark etched in their hearts. He was a "class act," and the world is a lesser place without him.
Grady's family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to his many incredible caregivers who have been with him along the way. Special gratitude to Matt Thomas and Mike Hutchinson (and his family), who both became Grady's "brothers," and Judy and Kevin for their selfless dedication.
Thanks are also expressed for the care he received from the BC Cancer Institute staff and the wonderful nurses on the 8th floor of the Royal Jubilee Hospital.
At Grady's request, no service will be held. He wished everyone to Celebrate his Life in their own way... do an unexpected, unsolicited act of kindness in his name.
