June 9, 2021
1923-2021 ~ It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Gordon Douglas Chamberlayne on June 9, 2021 at the age of 97.
He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Edith Chamberlayne, daughter Nancy (Gary), son Bruce (Linda), grand daughters Nicole (Matt), Carolyn (Trevor), three great granddaughters and one great grandson.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents Charlie and Louise Chamberlayne, his brothers Earl, Lloyd, Allan and sister Jean.
Gordon was born and raised in New Westminster. He served in the R.C.A.F. from June 1943 to November 1945. When living in West Vancouver he worked in the men's clothing department of Woodward's Department store.
In 1961 he and Edith moved their family to Qualicum Beach to take up ownership of the Crescent Motel. Later in life he operated a paint store in Parksville before retiring.
Gordon was a quietly strong gentle man. He was a loving and supportive husband. He was dedicated and very committed to the love of his life, Edith. Their incredible 74 years of marriage is to be admired.
He was also a warm and loving father to Nancy and Bruce, always being there when they needed him. He encouraged them in all their pursuits in life.
A celebration of Gordon's life will be held at St. Edmond's Anglican Church in Parksville, BC on a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers donations in Gordon's memory may be made to the St. Anne & St. Edmund Church Fund or to the Society of Organized Services (S.O.S.) in Parksville.
