March 7, 1941 - June 24, 2022
Jerry was born March 7, 1941, in Buck Lake, Alberta and died June 24, 2022, from Lewy Body Dementia. He was 81 years old.
Jerry was the second of 14 children born to Clifford and Daisy Platz. The family moved to Lund, BC when Jerry was a child before settling in Errington.
Jerry left school to follow in his father's footsteps, working in logging and as a mechanic.
In 1962 Jerry met and then married Carole Grieder from Denman Island. Work in the logging industry had them moving all over Vancouver Island and to Tatlayoko Lake, in the Cariboo region of the mainland.
Between 1964 and 1974 Jerry and Carole welcomed their daughters Fyffe, Catherine, Danielle and Tiffany. In 1973 they moved back to Denman Island where Jerry began a new career with BC Ferries and built the family home where he lived for 40 years.
Jerry filled his days with fishing, cutting firewood, topping trees, and working on cars. He loved old cars and attending the old car shows. His illness necessitated leaving Denman Island and moving into the Glacier View Lodge for the excellent care they could provide.
Jerry will always be remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand and entertaining others with food and telling stories. Jerry loved to meet people and never met a stranger he didn't like.
We would like to thank Dr Hunter and all the amazing staff of Glacier View Lodge for their kindness and care of Dad throughout the years and in his final days.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Alzheimer and Dementia research.
A celebration of life will be held August 6 from 1:00-3:00pm at the Denman Island Seniors Hall -1111 Northwest Road, Denman Island, BC.
