Gerard (Gerry) St. Cyr – Born in Ponteix SK, (13th child born in a family of 15 children), died in Ladysmith Lodge, surrounded by his loving family.
Predeceased by Muriel St. Cyr, his loving wife of 53 years.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Julie Langelo (Bob), Rene St. Cyr (Tamara), Carla Rootes (Roy), Andre St. Cyr (Margaret) and partner Valerie Calleberg, her loving and caring family, in addition to his own 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and his numerous extended family, all of whom dearly loved Gerry for the fun loving, kind and generous person he was.
Gerry migrated from Ponteix, SK, at the age of 17, to Vancouver Island and worked as a saw filer at Hillcrest, Mesachie Lake, Youbou Mill and various other saw mills in the region. He retired in 1990 and then pursued his many hobbies as follows: wood working, wine making, fishing, hunting, gardening and RV camping.
We will all miss his cowboy potatoes, smoked salmon, buckwheat pancakes, famous French apple pie and his homemade red wine, affectionately known as “hooch”.
With a tremendous generous heart, his hospitality to friends and family were unparalleled. Over the years, he spent countless hours helping others with household projects. He loved to host a gathering; serving up all his favourite foods. His famous saying was, “come on… have some more!!”
In his last summer he enjoyed nothing more than sitting on the porch with his beloved Val, and loyal dog, Dusty, watching the tubers drift by on the Cowichan River.
A special thank you is extended to the incredible, dedicated and kind-hearted staff of Ladysmith Lodge on 4th, who do everything possible to enrich the lives of those in their care.
Our family cannot fully express in words how grateful we are to them.
A celebration of life will be held, Monday, Nov. 20th at 2 pm, at St. Christopher’s – St. Aidan’s church, 70 Cowichan Ave. Reverend Debra Rivet will officiate the service.
