Gerald Franklin Stovel

July 18, 1936 – May 10, 2019
Peacefully passed away in his sleep in Victoria, BC. Gerry will be missed by his daughters: Janet Lee Merriman (Dave), Jeri-Lynn Osayande and Jennifer Harder (Daryl), and his 3 grandchildren: Justian and Jane Merriman, and Paige Robinson. Gerry is survived by his nephews Stuart (daughter Lia) and Daniel (Debra), plus cousins and family across Canada and the US.
Gerry was born in Winnipeg and spent half his life living in Winnipeg, Thompson and Brandon. He then moved to BC and lived in Parksville, Nanaimo, Victoria. Highlights from Gerry’s careers were his time spent as a counsellor for the Alcohol Foundation in Manitoba, and as a Commissionaire with CFB Esquimalt – being ‘on the rock’ as he called it. With 45+ years of sobriety, AA was a constant in Gerry’s life – he enjoyed being a sponsor and helping others.
Special Thank You’s to: the 3rd Floor Nursing Staff at Beacon Hill Villa in Victoria; the 6th Floor Nursing Staff at Nanaimo General Hospital; Sylvia Pham from SORT in Nanaimo; the Residents at Seafield Manor in Nanaimo; and Kathy & Bob from the book store in Nanaimo. Arrangements have been made for cremation and a public ceremony will not be held. Donations in Gerry’s memory can be made to Beacon Hill Villa in Victoria or a charity of your choice.
