September 3, 1948 - January 4, 2021
George was born in Derby, England and moved to Canada with his parents Nicholas and Maria Leshchuk at age 6. He passed away peacefully in Nanaimo, surrounded by his immediate family. He was 72.
Beloved husband of Marvie Leshchuk and sons Gregory Leshchuk (Zurich, Switzerland) and Stirling Scory (Kelowna).
He will be missed by his sister, Iris Krawchenko and family of Hamilton, Ontario. George moved to Nanaimo in 2003 from Ontario and became an active member of the community, having owned and operated Gallery 223 in downtown Nanaimo, as well as served on the Board of the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Downtown Business Association. Most recently, he worked as a realtor in the area.
Outside of work, he enjoyed traveling and spent time living and working in Europe in the late 1990s. He also enjoyed walking along the Nanaimo seawall and his love of fine wine was known to most. He was devoted to his family and will be sadly missed.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no ceremony will take place. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date once restrictions have been lifted.
The family expresses its sincere gratitude to the medical staff at NRGH and the palliative care unit in particular for the excellent care he received. In lieu of flowers, and if desired, donations in memory of George may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
