January 3, 1942 - January 3, 2022
On January 3, 2022 at 9:00 pm George Bertram Page passed peacefully on his 80th birthday at the Campbell River Hospital with his wife Sharon and daughter Brenda holding his hands while he took his last breaths. George had fought a long, hard battle with Muscular Dystrophy (OPMD) since his retirement, which took him in the end.
George was born on January 3, 1942 in Rouyn, Quebec to parents Ida and George Page. Predeceased and welcoming George home are his parents, sisters Mildred Page, Audrey Widdifield, Mary-Jane Normand with husband Bob, and brother Bill Page.
George is terribly missed by his wife and soul mate Sharon, brother David Page, daughter Brenda (Gord) Poole, grandson Tyler (Darnell) Bergen and great grandson Nash, granddaughters Stephanie (Bob) Poole, Tonya (Wes) Poole, Son Andy (Carey) Page, grandchildren Ava, Sophie and Dallas, stepdaughters Amanda (Derek) Klassen and grandson Jayden, Tanya (Darrel) Klassen and grandchildren Devin, Michael, Shayna and Kyra, Buddy his faithful furry companion as well as countless family and friends.
George started his hardworking ethics as a young teen in Arntfield, Quebec, where he would put food on the table for the family through hunting, trapping and fishing. He was a hardworking man and great provider his whole life. At 16, he worked prospecting with his lifelong friend Real Gagnon. George worked at Mines in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and BC. At 18, he had a hard time getting hired into mining as he didn't weigh enough...so with no luck after 6 months of weekly hitch-hiking into Ontario's Kerr-Addison Gold Mine trying to get hired ...he put rocks in his pockets and finally weighed enough to be hired. He met many people and worked doing many different jobs in the mining industry. Even did some rock blasting on Stuart Island so a rich fellow could have a tennis court built.
The outdoorsman passion was life long, until his body wouldn't cooperate anymore. George loved the hunting trips with friends, bringing in his limit fishing, flying through the snow on his snowmobile stopping for some of that 'put hair on your chest' home made wine, golf and playing baseball and hockey. Many of these activities involved having a few brewskies, always laughs and a bunch of teasing.
George also enjoyed playing cribbage with friends and family. Can't count how many games he has played in his lifetime. He would often be heard saying 'life is good'.
One of George's biggest passions was his Toronto Maple Leafs, he chose them over Montreal way back in the day of listening to NHL games on the radio, simply because he wanted to be different than everyone else. He never waivered from his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, no bigger fan did they have than George.
In 2005 George and Sharon began their relationship and eventually married on February 14, 2009. No better person for George exists, he loved her dearly.
George's family would like to thank the community care givers, especially Lonnie, the nurses at Campbell River Hospital on floor 3D, Dr. Kask and Dr. Farias for the care and respect he was given.
There will be no service at George's request. The family may have a celebration of life in the spring, dependent on restrictions.
