In Loving Memory ~
George Bernard Broughton passed away Thursday, June 9th, 2022.
He was predeceased by wives Neena and Margaret, and sons Wayne, Steven and Ron.
He is survived by children Fran (Rick), Mike (Terrie), Pat, Sandra (Marty), Colleen (Kevin), (Gina), 22 grandchildren, numerous great and great great grandchildren, and his 4 legged best friend Scruffy.
George was born and raised in Port Alberni. He was very social and loved a good game of cards, especially crib. He worked at Macmillan Blodel as fire chief for APD, Somass, and the Plywoods. His interest in fire safety lead him to the Sproat Lake fire department where he volunteered for many decades. He was also an auxiliary Police officer at this time and was an active member of the VI RCMP Veterans Association. After retiring from the mills, he took on the job of caretaker at the water bomber base, where he enjoyed showing people around and telling the history of the planes.
George was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was proudly presented with his 50 year pin last year. He was a member of the Port Alberni Elks and when the local lodge shut down, he made the drive over the hump to join the Parksville-Qualicum Elks.
As per his wishes, George will be interred with his parents at the Greenwood cemetery on July 16th.
There will be a celebration of life from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #293, 4680 Victoria Quay, Port Alberni, BC. We encourage everyone to come and share your stories.
