With heavy hearts we announce that our Dad, Gene, passed away suddenly at his home in Canora, Saskatchewan at the age of 77.

Gene was born in Canora and with his family moved to Prince Rupert, BC after high school. It was in Prince Rupert where Gene met Judy Powell whom he married in 1961. They eventually settled with their children in Nanaimo. Gene was a born salesman and excelled as a real estate salesman for Frank Ney at Nanaimo Realty in the 1970's where he won several sales awards including top salesman on Vancouver Island. After a couple other business ventures Gene moved to Vancouver before settling again at the family farm in Canora. As well as being a great dad, Gene loved his dogs and playing softball. He had a gun for an arm and was a power hitter in fast- pitch before playing slow-pitch including one season with Jim's team that went on to win a championship. He loved working out and all sports that included following the BC Lions and Vancouver Canucks. He lived his life as one of the good guys. Working in a tough industry with integrity.

Gene was pre-deceased by his father, Bill, mother Helen and brothers Thomas and Wilbert and sister Olga. Gene is survived by his son Jim (Yvonne) and grandchildren Jarred, Grace and Maeve of Brisbane, Australia, daughter Sandy of Nanaimo and sister Jeanette of Canora, Saskatchewan. He was proud of his children and grandchildren as well as being a loyal loving son and brother.

At Gene's request there will not be a formal funeral service.

A celebration of his life will be held at Jim and Sandy's Mother's house at 137 Bird Sanctuary Drive in Nanaimo on Tuesday October 2nd starting from 1pm for family and friends, Flowers are gratefully declined.
