April 28, 1935 - February 2, 2020
With much sadness and heavy hearts, we announce that Gaynel passed peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2020 after several years of bravely battling dementia.
She will be forever missed by her son, Ken (Nancy) of Calgary; daughter, Cindy of Ladysmith; grandson, Connor of Ladysmith; and her siblings, Linda Peterson and Del Thompson both of Nanaimo. Gaynel was predeceased by her husband, Len Jansen; parents, Agnes and Everrett Thompson; brother, Dale Thompson; and sister, Marilyn Martinoski.
Gaynel, the eldest of 5 children, was born in Rocanville, Saskatchewan where the family lived on a farm. Eventually she moved to Regina where she met her husband, Len. They were married in 1959 and began their married life.
In 1974, the family moved to Qualicum Beach where Gaynel lived a full life. She worked in the family business and spent many rewarding hours volunteering at Eagle Park Health Care Facility. Gaynel enjoyed travelling, gardening, spending time with family and baking her legendary cinnamon buns.
She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Service was held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Knox United Church at 345 Pym Street in Parksville. Those wishing to honour Gaynel's memory may do so by making a donation in her name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
