August 11, 1944 - March 29, 2020
Garry was the youngest of 12 children born to the Pearson clan on a large family farm north west of Spiritwood, Saskatchewan on August 11th, 1944.
He had blue, blue eyes (his mother Sarah Pearson was from Iceland and Father Wilfred Pearson from Sweden) Garry's heritage explains his blue eyes that twinkled when he was happy and could glare at you when he was not so happy.
Garry and his mother left Saskatchewan to move to Courtenay when his father passed away in the early 70's. This move pleased Garry as he told me many times how he hated snow. Garry spent most of his years on Vancouver Island living in Fanny Bay with his brother Glen.
Garry loved many things in life starting with hockey, he knew scores and stats from years gone by to present day. Garry loved using the phone and called his favorite people on many occasions. He enjoyed saying "Hi" to all the people that he knew from the bus drivers to the tellers at the bank and many more people in between. He loved Chinese food, parades, farmers markets and going almost anywhere with Kelly.
Garry really treasured his little Christmas tree and kept it up all year round. He loved bowling every week and sharing his scores with anyone who would listen. Garry enjoyed having people visit (but not for too long) and he loved going to Diane and Kelly's every night for supper for many, many years.
His home in Fanny Bay meant so much to him and he liked it exactly the way it was with very, very few changes and that included no one moving that Christmas tree.
Garry is survived by one sister, Bernice Sparks and he was the uncle to 35 nieces and nephews and great uncle to many more. As one of Garry's nieces I enjoyed his sense of humor and the joy he took in the simple things in life.
When I went to the Seniors village to gather his belongings there amongst his boxes sat a little living Christmas tree, it made me smile because of course he would have a Christmas tree. We will plant it at his home in Fanny Bay.
We will all miss you Garry, you were a very special uncle, brother, friend, son and person in your community. May you rest in peace.
We will have a life celebration for Garry sometime this spring at his home in Fanny Bay and all are welcome, we will announce a time at a later date.
