It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother Gail Francis Palou on April 26th 2019 in Cairnsmore Place Duncan B.C. at the age of 80.

Gail was born in Victoria B.C. on June 7th, 1938 to Elmer and Marjorie Charlton. She was raised in Victoria and completed her schooling there. Gail enjoyed sports and played basketball while in school. She was a member of CGIT (Canadian Girls in Training) and attended Douglas St. Baptist

Church. Following school, she worked in the clerical department at the B.C. Parliament Buildings.

Gail married Jimmy John Palou in 1957. They resided in Edmonton briefly before returning to Victoria, where they started a family. In 1964 they moved to Chemainus where they would complete their family.

Her family left to remember her are Keith (Marianne) Palou, Steven (Wendy) Palou, Lynette (James) Abday and Sylvia (Stuart) Buchner plus 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a nephew and niece along with numerous great nieces and great nephews.

During her years in Chemainus, Gail enjoyed swimming in the ocean, was an avid bowler and attended Calvary Baptist Church where she became involved in the Louisa Mission Group supporting missionaries and others in need. She also volunteered at school hot lunch days and despite never having gotten a driver's license attended her kids' numerous sporting and community events by walking.

Gail loved reading novels, watching her Toronto Blue Jays, had a unique sense of humor and enjoyed her large collection of hummingbird items.

Gail eventually moved to Cairnsmore Place due to a progressive mobility condition. She had some health scares, but was doing well in the past year. She became more active and was often seen enjoying her "daily treats". Gail obtained her nickname Charlie at a young age and it stuck through the years especially with old childhood friends and the staff at Cairnsmore to whom we give many thanks.

A service will be held Friday May 10, 2019 at First Memorial Funeral Services, 375 Brae Rd Duncan B.C. at 1 pm, with reception to follow.
