Freida Marie Lawson, age 84, of Courtenay and recently Comox, British Columbia passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Freida was born September 7, 1936 in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia to Abigail and Fred Taylor.
Freida and Charlie were married September 22, 1956. During their marriage and Charlie's career in the Air Force they lived in many different places including Germany, Summerside PEI and finally the Comox Valley in 1967, which they never wanted to leave.
Freida is survived by son Peter; brother's John and Owen (Bev); nieces Susan and Julie (Jon); Great nieces and nephews Griffin, Alyssa, and Ethan. Other than Peter, all other family members reside in Ontario.
Freida was preceded in death by her husband Charles (Charlie) Audrey Lawson; daughter Cindy; father Fred and mother Abigail.
Freida was an insurance adjuster, eventually working for ICBC when it was formed in 1973.
Freida was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion serving on the executive as the vice-president. She was also a life member and past president of the Soroptimist International Club of Courtenay. Freida loved reading, jigsaw puzzles and her cats.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr Itta Winter, mom's doctor for 18 years. A special thank you for the exceptional care and compassion provided over the years and especially during her last days.
We would also like to thank all the staff at The View's at St Joseph's for the care, support and comfort provided to Freida during her stay there and especially during her final days.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Soroptimist International of Courtenay - SoroptiPaks Project, a project helping women in transition from abuse and their children.
