1935-2020 ~ Fred Thornton passed away peacefully in Port Alberni on April 23, 2020. He is predeceased by his mother and father, Irene and Fred, his wife Rose as well as his brother Irwin Thornton and his brother-in-law Frank Stewart. He is survived by his sisters Irene Stewart and Ruth Haw of Ontario, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Fred had many hobbies including fishing and canning; gardening; woodworking; crib and going on a road trip every few years to Ontario to visit his family and friends. For 54 years Fred was a proud member of Branch 293 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He could always be found fundraising and volunteering for the Variety Club and penny drives.
Following cremation Fred will be inurned in the Field of Honour at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can kindly be made in Fred's name to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada at 20 Eglinton Avenue West, 16th floor, Toronto, ON, M4R 1K8, or to The Royal Canadian Legion at 4680 Victoria Quay, Port Alberni, BC V9Y 6G5
