August 16, 1956 - April 30, 2021
After a brave struggle with cancer, Fred has left us to join his Mom Jessie, his Dad Jerry, his brother, Frank and his little dog, Jack.
He leaves behind his three lovely daughters, Kamela (Daryl), Mekaila (Graham) and Claire (Mike) and his four lively and much treasured grandchildren Austyn, Hudson, Ellie and Delilah.
Also flattened by this blow are his brothers, Stan and Jerry and his sisters, Janina, Julie and June, his nieces and nephews and many good friends.
Born in Duncan and making Nanaimo home ever since, Fred joined LiUNA three days after his eighteenth birthday and has been a lifelong member of Local 1611. Much of Fred's work life involved travel - first as a mason tender in industrial construction and for the last 20 years, as a NACE Level 3 certified inspector in the oil and gas industry. Fred, with his ready humour and easy smile, livened up many a dull workplace.
Always an avid fisherman, Fred could hook the big one when nothing was biting and he never met a casino he didn't like. A mixture of luck and skill made him successful at both.
Respectful of CoVid restrictions, we are tentatively planning a retirement party for Fred on the weekend of his 65th birthday for friends and family to share memories and stories and celebrate this man who has left us with such heavy hearts and an unfillable void.
By strict instructions from Fred, this event will be a "No Tear Zone".
"Don't cry because it's over,
Smile because it happened."
