Our beloved Frances Quocksister passed away peacefully in her home in Campbell River on Thursday November 11, 2021 at 5:10 pm at the age of 84. Frances was born to Chief Ood'zistalis Henry Able Bell of the Mamalillukulla First Nation and Wadzidalaga Eliza Bell (nee Wallace) of the Kwakiutl First Nation in Alert Bay on June 19, 1937 and was raised in Ma'amtag'ila. Frances was one of six children and is survived by her younger sister Doreen Walkus (nee Bell).
Frances married the love of her life, Joseph Bruce Quocksister "Ho-Me-Kins" of the Laichkwiltach Nation (Wei Wai Kum) March 23, 1956 and together they had six children and raised the children in Campbell River and Nanaimo.
Frances is predeceased by her husband Joseph Quocksister; eldest son, Thomas Quocksister; and granddaughter Brittany Baird. Frances is survived by five children: Roberta Latimer (nee Quocksister), Shirley Baird (nee Quocksister), Bonita Quocksister, Henry Kwaksistala, and her baby Robert Kwaksistala as well as combined total of 26 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Frances wanted to pass in her home surrounded by her family. Her final wishes were able to be fulfilled with support and assistance from Dr. Arnold and the nurses and home support from the Kwakiutl District Council Health and Vancouver Island Health Authority. The family would like to acknowledge and thank granddaughter, Katerina Quocksister for stepping up and being the primary caregiver in the last weeks of Frances's life.
There will be a celebration of life to come at a later date.
