In Loving Memory ~
Evelyn Estelle Miller passed away on April 16, 2022 at The Views in Comox surrounded by loved ones.
Evelyn was born in Calgary on January 16th, 1924. She and her late sister Norma lived in Calgary with their parents John and Alice Harrison.
Her lifelong interest in music began early in her teens where she belonged to the singing group "8 Notes of Melody." They recorded an album, as well as sang for the troops heading overseas at the Palace Theater.
At 19 years old she married Brian Lannan, a member of the RCAF. During the war they were posted to the then remote community of Ucluelet. She had many stories of "bushwacking" from one house to another as there were very few roads back then and swimming right from the deck of their beachfront home.
They had 3 children together and after the war they were posted to Comox where they settled with their young family. The family lost husband and father Brian in 1981 when he passed away following a long journey with cancer.
Evelyn worked at the post office for more than 20 years before she retired. She had many interests including swimming, scuba diving, music, painting, sewing, knitting, travelling the globe and making friends wherever she went. She was a storyteller and ever curious of people's lives and their experiences. Her most famous story was playing a trick on boaters in Fiji by diving down and grabbing their feet underwater. She caused them to practically jump out of the water!
She met the love of her life, James Miller, and married him in 1989. They enjoyed their time together immensely whether it was camping, travelling, dancing, dinners at the beach and walking. Jim and Ev were married for 32 years when Jim passed away suddenly, just 4 months prior to her.
Evelyn loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them be it camping, family dinners or visits over coffee. She was a vivacious woman and never held back expressing her love for family, she would often be brought to tears at family get-togethers and explain "they are happy tears." She was a model of how to live in the moment, making the most of life's opportunities and to express your love to those you are with.
Her spirit is carried on by her son Robert Lannan (Karen), daughter Sharon Morrison, and son Ronald Lannan (Terri), as well as by her and Jim's collective 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Evelyn's family will gather to celebrate her life and share the many memories she created with them and as per her wishes there will be stories, music and laughter. She will be remembered as a wife, mother, nana, grandma, friend, singer, painter, swimmer, piemaker, storyteller, dancer, for her hugs and her immense love of life.
