He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Vi E Bauchman and his brother Brinton (Madelyn) Bauchman of Kingston NS. He also leaves to mourn his 3 children son Kevin (Debbie) of Winnipeg MB son Kris (Debra) of Campbell River BC, daughter Kathy (Ryan) Barker of Winnipeg MB and stepdaughter Heather (Michael) of St George, UT. Grandsons and granddaughters, Derek (Jasmin) Tyler (Selena), Justin (Tania), Leslie (Ryan) and Jordan (Marena), step-granddaughter Chantelle (Dan) Booton, as well as 5 great-grandchildren.
Ernie was born in Centerlea NS and grew up in Bridgetown NS where he attended school and competed in many sports activities. As a track star in the mid 50's he won several competitions. In 2013 he was an inductee into the NS Sport Hall of Fame. His career started in the Air Force as a "Rec Spec" for which he arranged many national sports events, he changed his career path and went on to be a civil engineer, retiring as a warrant officer. He later worked as a civil engineer draftsman in Winnipeg, MB and in Comox BC.
Ernie enjoyed the outdoors and loved spending time away at their trailer in Winnipeg Beach. Ernie and Vi enjoyed sitting by the fire at night talking and laughing with family and friends. He enjoyed going to the Legion and spending time with "the boys". He also loved and took great pride in wood carving. He would go up to his workshop and work his magic! His attention to detail was amazing and it showed in every piece he carved. One of his prize possessions was a beautiful replica of the Bluenose which he carved to scale! He also carved planes and other delicate pieces.
Ernie was a loving Father, husband and a kind and generous person who was well-liked by all who met him. We will miss Ernie's genuine concern for others, may he rest in peace.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date at the Comox Legion.
