Eleanor Schaefer passed away peacefully on March 12 with family by her side at West Coast General Hospital. She was born in Runnymede, Sask. on April 6, 1926.

Edna was predeceased by husband John in 1975 leaving her with five children still at home. She was also predeceased by daughters Janet, Sharon and Nadine and son, Kim; three brothers, Richard, George and Ernie Riffel; one sister, Elsie Ruf.

She is survived by her sons Cliff (Judy), Allan (Linda) and Gerald; daughters Debbie Krueger and Daphne Campbell (Alec); 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren; three sisters: Ruth Riffel, Joyce Flaith and Jean Pister.

Edna went from a stay-at-home mom to find work to provide for the five children still at home. She was very proud that she could stretch a dollar to care for her children.

Edna left school in Grade 6 to help on the farm after her mother had health problems. When asked how much schooling she had her answer was enough.

Growing up Edna loved playing softball, curling and bowling.

After her children were grown Edna created some fond memories with two trips to the briers with her sisters; went to Graceland and started a collection of Elvis memorabilia; a trip to Hawaii and Mexico. Her biggest regret was never getting her driver's license.

A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, March 22 and a Celebration of Life for family and friends at the Italian Hall at 1 pm.
